Temas principales: The main idea is to try to understand why the island is divided into two country although both countries have many similarities. Dominicans show have even though Spain colonized Dominican Republic, Dominicans have been white washed into thinking their superior than any other latin-American country. Dominicans feel more close to the Eurocentric side and this is why they have been white washed.

Punto de vista – The poverty shown in Haiti is shown when Haitians are living in tents without any form of electricity, plumbing, etc. We were able to see how Haiti lived in poverty whereas in the Dominican Republic. Dominicans and Haitian view their heroes is completely different and this is shown in their statues. The same heroes that were made into statues in both countries were made differently where in Haiti the statue was made in black. This demonstrates how Haitians are proud of the African component. In the Dominican Republic that same statue was built in white and demonstrated how Dominicans are more “white washed” and would rather make their heroes white.
